Ride the Rockies 2002

In July 2002 Linda and I joined friends on Ride the Rockies, a supported bicycle camping tour traveling a loop through Southwest Colorado.

Our friend Doug Parrow had a goal to ride through all of the US states. He learned of the Ride the Rockies bicycle tour organized by the Denver Post. This tour chooses a different route in Colorado each year. It is limited to 2000 bicyclists by a lottery system. Doug learned that up to ten people could pool their applications and nine of us from Salem and Bend Oregon applied in one packet: Doug, Mel, Ken, John, Joanne, Alan, Roger, Linda, and myself. In March we learned that we had been selected.

Bicycle Idaho 2001

In July 2001 Linda and I joined Bicycle Idaho 2001, a supported bicycle camping tour traveling a loop through the Snake River Plain and the Sawtooth Range of Idaho.

We had enjoyed participating in several Oregon Bicycle Ride tours, and when we heard that the same company, Bicycle Rides Northwest, was organizing a similar tour in Idaho we knew we wanted to try Bicycle Idaho 2001. We were joined on the ride by long time Oregon friends from Salem and new friends from Bend, our new home.

Oregon Bicycle Ride 2002

In August 2002 Linda and I joined Oregon Bicycle Ride 2002, a supported bicycle camping tour traveling a loop in Central Oregon out of Bend. Our last Oregon Bicycle Ride had been Oregon Bicycle Ride 1999. Since then we had tried several other tours, including the Bicycle Idaho tours organized by the same company. This year we decided to return. It was particularly convenient for us since it began and ended in our home town.

The Oregon Bicycle Ride 2002 was organized by Bicycle Rides Northwest, a company based in Bend, Oregon.

Oregon Bicycle Ride 1999

In August 1999 Linda and I joined Oregon Bicycle Ride 1999, a supported bicycle camping tour traveling a loop in Northeast Oregon out of Pendleton. This was our third consecutive year on the Oregon Bicycle Ride, after Oregon Bicycle Ride 1997 and Oregon Bicycle Ride 1998.

The OBR was becoming an annual event for us. We especially looked forward to touring around the Wallowa Mountains of Northeastern Oregon. As always, the tour was organized by Bicycle Rides Northwest, a company based in Bend, Oregon.
