Oregon Bicycle Ride 1998

February 1, 2010 by Paul McClellan Leave a Comment

In August 1998 Linda and I joined Oregon Bicycle Ride 1998, a supported bicycle camping tour traveling in Oregon from Frenchglen to Cascade Locks. This was our second consecutive year on the Oregon Bicycle Ride. We were hooked on OBR tours by the end of last year’s tour and immediately planned to join the tour again in 1998.

This tour was organized again by Bicycle Rides Northwest, a company based in Bend, Oregon.

Oregon Bicycle Ride 1997

In August 1997 Linda and I joined Oregon Bicycle Ride 1997, a supported bicycle camping tour traveling from Denio Junction, Nevada, to Gold Beach, Oregon. This tour was organized by Bicycle Rides Northwest, a company based in Bend, Oregon.

Several Salem Bicycle Club members, including Lando and Mary, had described to us how much they enjoyed previous Oregon Bicycle Rides. These rides are supported bicycle camping tours. The company carries the bicyclists’ camping gear from camp to camp, provides rest stops and support along the route, and breakfast, dinner, and showers at the camps.

Bryce Canyon, Zion, and Grand Canyon Bicycle Tour 2001

January 30, 2010 by Paul McClellan Leave a Comment

In June 2001 Linda and I joined a supported bicycle tour and visited Bryce Canyon, Zion, and Grand Canyon National Parks. The tour was organized by Cycle America and Pedal the Peaks, a company based in Cannon Falls, Minnesota.

We decided to rejoin Cycle America for their Bryce Canyon, Zion, and Grand Canyon National Parks Bicycle Tour in 2001 after enjoying their Glacier and Waterton Lakes National Parks Bicycle Tour the previous August. This tour was held twice in the summer of 2001. We selected the earliest, which ended at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. The timing was better for us, and it seemed fitting to finish there. We again selected the camping option, rather than the motel option, and enjoyed meeting the other campers. The tour was organized by Cycle America and Pedal the Peaks, a company based in Cannon Falls, Minnesota.

Death Valley Wildflower Tour 2000

January 30, 2010 by Paul McClellan Leave a Comment

In March 2000 Linda and I joined the Death Valley Wildflower Tour, a supported bicycle tour exploring Death Valley National Park. This tour was organized by Country Spokes, a family-run company based in Walnut Creek, California.

By the summer of 1999 we had ridden several supported bicycle tours. Ken, one of our Salem Bicycle Club friends, shared some of those rides with us. He told us how much he had enjoyed the wildflower scenery and gourmet food of the Death Valley Wildflower Tour. During the following wet Oregon winter Linda and I decided to get away from the rain and join this tour.
